• 易溶于水，微溶于乙醇，几乎不溶于乙醚、丙酮和氯仿。最大吸收波长522(450)nm。半数致死量(小鼠，静脉)4mg/kg。有刺激性。
• 生产方法:于20ml浓硫酸中，分次加入10g（0.145mol）固体亚硝酸钠，同时控制加入速度，以便只放出少量的一氧化氮。当溶解完全后，边搅拌边分次加入20g（0.145mol）水杨酸，全部过程约15min。然后在20℃将此混合物搅拌至全部固体均溶解，此粘稠液呈亮红色至棕色。将液体入在冰浴 上，使温度降至0℃，边搅拌边慢慢滴加5ml（0.065mol）35-40%的甲醛溶液，反应温度不得超过5℃，反应完全后，加100g碎冰和500ml冰水，搅拌至形成固体小块为止。过滤，用冰水洗涤数次，抽干，再溶于1：2（体积比）氨水中，滤纸过滤。滤液在蒸汽浴上蒸干。约得19.22g棕黄色玻璃状固体物。产率83-86%。
